We’re excited to highlight Karena Robertson, our Heirs Property Program Coordinator, who joined Hogar Hispano Inc. in January 2026. With a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, a Master of Public Administration focused on Organizational Management, and over 15 years of nonprofit accounting experience, Karena brings both technical expertise and a deep commitment to community-centered work.
Through her role with the NCST Heirs Property Pilot Research Program, Karena is helping HHI better understand and address the complex challenges surrounding heirs’ properties—an issue we frequently encounter in our work. Her research has already identified key barriers impacting families and properties alike, including tangled titles, probate delays, lien complications, and financing challenges. These insights are critical as we strengthen our ability to support homeowners and stabilize communities.
When asked what “home” means to her, Karena shared: “Home is anywhere my kids are—where love is.” That sense of purpose is reflected in her passion for ensuring that Black and Brown families can access knowledge and resources without being taken advantage of.
Outside of work, Karena is a self-proclaimed planner who enjoys coffee with hazelnut creamer, cookies-and-cream ice cream, and time with her dog, Russel. She dreams of visiting Curaçao one day—and if she could master any skill instantly, it would be braiding hair.
We’re grateful to have Karena on the HHI team and look forward to the impact her work will continue to make in the communities we serve.
